Julia Mackay-Koelen is a registered psychologist, avid trail runner and published author of short stories and poems. She enlisted into the Army Reserves as a psychologist in 1981 and served in 15 Psychology Unit, 1 Psychology Unit (Sydney) and 7 Health Company. She is currently posted to HQ, WA Australian Army Cadets. Julia works full-time as a contract psychologist for the Department of Defence based at Leeuwin Barracks and, prior to this, she was a psychologist with the WA Police for 24 years. Julia is passionate about mental health, wellbeing and resilience, and she is working with the committee and other service organisations for the benefit of RAEME in WA. Julia is married to Greg (a non-trail runner) and they have two adult children. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Peter Cowan Writers’ Group, the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA and she is a regular participant in the Perth Trail Series. Julia is currently studying a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy at ECU on a part-time basis.
